The Ohio State University will now send out Hate Crime Alerts when a hate crime occurs on or around the OSU campus...and it's all because of YOUR hard work, determination, leadership, and organization! Well done, students of OSU!! See below for the first Hate Crime Alert issued on April 6, 2012:
| Important Public Safety Notice April 6, 2012 MESSAGE FROM UNIVERSITY POLICE PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE Dear OSU Community Member: You are receiving this notice because a hate crime has occurred that is considered to be of a concern and/or a continuing threat to the campus community and to heighten your safety awareness. The purpose of his notice is to provide community members with information necessary to take appropriate precautions, enable you to protect yourself and to aid in the prevention of similar crimes. Unless specifically stated, this notice does not mean there has been an increase in crime or that any specific crime pattern exists. ________________________________________ Public Safety Notice Date: 2012-4-6 Alert Code: 2012-1 The following hate crime occured on campus: The Clery Act defines a hate crime as a criminal offense committed against a person or property which is motivated in whole or part by the offender's bias. On April 5, 2012 University Police were notified of a criminal act (case 12-1391 Graitifism) that occurred at the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center. Painted on an outside wall was a written phrase that was racially motivated. On April 6, 2012 University Police became aware of an additional hate crime that involved racial and religious slurs spray painted on a mural on the outside of a building. This second crime occurred in a student residential area (off campus) located at 12th. Ave. and N.4th. Street in the City of Columbus. ________________________________________ Anyone with information concerning this crime should contact either the University Police, 292-2121 or Columbus Police, 645-4545.
